5-Minute Morning Routine for Busy Moms

Try these morning routines to boost your morning productivity:

Wake up 10-20 minutes before the kids to quickly get started on the daily tasks or morning chores before there is chaos and children afoot. (I like to be up an hour before the kids so I can toss in a load of laundry, clean any dishes my teens left in the sink, pack lunches, and make myself a cup of coffee and sit down for 5-minutes to check email before the kids are up).

Morning flow looks like this:
Wake kids and immediately start the Bathroom → Clothes → Kitchen flow.

Kids eat simple breakfast options (yogurt,
banana bread, fruit, or smoothies).

While they eat, Mom packs lunches (if not already done), puts lunch boxes in book bags, and fills water bottles.

Everyone grabs pre-packed backpacks by the door, then they put on their jackets and shoes, and out we go!

9 Busy-Mom Organization Hacks that Actually Work

9 Organization Hacks

Here are 9 simple organization hacks busy moms swear by—these are practical, relatable, and save real time.

1. The “Launch Pad” or ‘mud-room’ space. This is where the keys, backpacks, and shoes live in our home
2. One basket per-kid laundry system
3. Pre-packaged lunch supplies such as yogurt, cheese sticks, pre-cut fruit snacks, and kids can help pack lunches at night!
4. Family “command center”. I have a large digital tablet with Google Calendar where all the appointments and meetings are all in one place!
5. 5-minute car cleaning: everyone grabs one piece of trash or item to remove from the minivan
6. Keep a running list of grocery items for the week (I text them to myself so I can always go back to it)
7. Weekly outfit bins- Pre-plan what to wear the night before, this works well when the kids are involved in both laundry and selection
8. The 10-minute nightly tidy-up: before bed, have the kids pick up all their toys and pack up their backpacks for the next day
9. Sunday night reset: spend 15 minutes every Sunday night to check school calendars and prepare for the week ahead.

Simple Self-Care for Moms

Busy Moms don’t have much time for self-care, but it really is an essential piece to living our best lives!

My top favorite self-care hack is the ‘quiet coffee’. Just 5-minutes in the morning before the kids and the chaos, just some time to my own thoughts, to pray, to read the Bible, or pop in my earbuds and start my day with clarity and calm.

My next favorite self-care hack is exercise! I know it isn’t always possible to sneak in a workout before the day starts, but if you can squeeze it, it truly sets the tone for your day. No matter how your day turns, you know at least you did something good for your body!

The next self-care idea I enjoy with my youngest daughter. Every Friday night, we like to find a movie on Netflix and give ourselves a mini-makeover with face masks and moisturizer.

As the day winds down, I like to write down any last-minute ideas or tasks for the next day that I may have missed. This helps my mind to settle as I am drifting off to sleep so that I don’t wake up at 2 a.m. stressed that I forgot to do ‘that thing’ the day before. I know we’ve all been there!
